Lube DOESN'T make it quieter in spite of all the misconceptions about lube and what you need. I don't think you can hear the injectors click any differently over the combustion noises, do you?
What bio has done is to change the combustion characteristics and that makes it quieter. All the lube in the world can't do that. I don't understand why people think that lubricity changes engine noise. It might make a tiny change but you can't hear it over the explosions in the engine. If you don't believe it, try listening to injectors fire sometime on a bench. Now, with a stethoscope with a point there, you can hear it. If you have expensive sound filtering software and record the sound, you can hear it. In the cab, not a chance in hell
BioDiesel - B99
$5.249/gal Member
$5.599/gal General Public
I can get D2 for $4.69
Whoa?? I don't pay into a co-op, I was buying B100 from Firefighter that was making it out of his garage. The only reason I don't buy it anymore is because I fell into an even better bargain. That Prairie BioFuels company is simply insane, charging that much for bio fuel, hell even the wvo is kinda expensive. I KNOW they get wvo for free, and if made on a reasonably large scale (50-100 gals a day) you can make B100 for about $1 a gallon, and that's adjusting for the increased cost of methanol. I would even go as far as saying ok, maybe $2 a gal to produce. How can the justify charging an extra (if that much) $2.25 (for members oooow!!) ?? Am I just crazy and not in touch with the times, or am being unreasonable, or am I just another guy that hates getting mooched off of??

I asked them why they were not competitive and they said that if they wanted to attract more members, they could lower the price but that are not in that mode or words to that effect.
They have a people that will pay for it because of whatever reasons so they can fleece them. I'm not sure where their bio comes from but I don't think even commercial stuff is that expensive. Still, somebody has to pay for the "No blood for oil" stickers.
I think the last part about being mooched off since I am that way too. Like I said, if bio were a couple cents cheaper to compensate for the loss of BTUs and mileage, I'd go for it. These people are charging more because they can fleece people who have certain concerns. The fact that they can openly tell me that they are not being competitive because they choose to speaks volumes.
i could never get over the price of bio and retail stations considering you can make it yourself for way less. but what can you expect when they are using fresh oil instead of WVO for mass production. again, we have so many restaurants in the USA with such a surplus of WVO I am shocked we do not have bio stations with really cheap biodiesel.

They know that a few fringe lunatics will pay more for it so they stick you for all they can.
I have been wanting to try bio but the only 2 places that sell it here seem to want to rape on the price. It is usually more expensive or the same as d2. My question is how is your mpg with bio? I have heard you loose some and that seems to me to be not worth using at that point. Thanks joe

Let me answer your question with an observation and a question.
First off, I used the same D2 to keep that consistent. Splash mixed B100 or B99 whatever you call it. Up to B40 in 10% increments. At B40 I noticed a definate 1-2 mpg drop. Before that, the difference is too slight for me to take note. Say 1 tank with 1.2 mpg loss and other for say 0.5 mpg loss I don't consider since it is small enough to be affected by many other factors.
Even biodiesel sellers will tell you that because of the lower BTU you will lose some mileage but very slight. Do you think they will tell you that you will lose say 5 mpg? Probably not. Do you think they will try trivialize the loss? Probably so. However, in any case, they admit to a loss in mpg. So what do you think?
Is it worth it? Only if it is a few cents cheaper. I am not concerned about lubricity since I think that the rubbish report is just a scam to sell additives.
Thanks interesting info. Well it appears now that i can get b20 for 15cents per gallon cheaper. Might be worth trying. But i have done this game before. By the time im ready for my next fuel the bio place may raise up the price again to the same or even more than the d2. But i willl keep an i out.

You ALWAYS keep an eye out and buy it cheaper. That is the thing I hate about diesel. It is less popular than gas and so the price changes whenever they get a new load. IOW, If my new load costs more today, I raise the price. I have to. But Joe across the street doesn't get his load till next Tuesday so he can keep his price at what it was.
I tried diesel from Woodman's Grocery. WAY LOUSY. Dropped performance like a stone and mileage tanked. On my car I could get 630 miles on a tank cruising. When I fill up, I struggle to get 550. Fill up elsewhere and I get 630 give or take. Back to Woodmans and it is another 550 struggle.
This means that where you get the D2 from plays a role. Remember, Bio is only the percentage of Bio. That means your B20 has 80% diesel. That 80% can affect your mileage.
Thanks for the input. I will look at fuel around the area and try to use that in my testing. I have heard that one of the big truck stops in the area has bad fuel but i tend to question that as so many big rigs go there? I guess i need to look to see if they actually post the cetane? Thanks joe
