Lower control arm replacement
I bought a 99 ranger 4x4 3.0 v6 a couple months ago and the thing is really squeaky. I determined it was the bushings on the lower control arm on the driver side and tried some wd-40 and other lubes but this just seemed to make it worse. I broke down and bought a new control arm from ford ($80) instead of trying to replace them mostly because the truck has an R title and was wrecked on the driver side. I asked the shop foreman at the dealership how you removed the torsion bar and he said they have special ford tools and he didnt think you could do it without them. My buddy that works at a garage says he just paints the adjuster bolt, removes it, then unbolts the whole thing from the frame. Is this possible? Is there any way to replace the lower control arm without removing the torsion bar completely? Do you need a pitman arm puller to separate the balljoint or can you just use a pickle fork like you use for tie rods?
