Storage/turbo

I've been reading threads about how its not good to let the truck sit for long periods, epecially for the turbo.

My situation is that my truck ('06, 25,000 miles) is a weekend only toy hauler (boat, trailered rockcrawler). It sits all week. Sometimes there are periods that my wife and I don't make it out to the cabin where we keep it for a month. It is kept in an unheated garage, in the winter it gets pretty cold.

For now all I've been doing is making sure the tank is full and hooking up a good trickle charger. Anything else I should be doing? Should I add an engine block heater in the winter?

It may already have a block heater on it. If you look in the lower part of the bumper, where the fog lights are, there should be a wire coiled up and un along the front of the bumper with a plug on it. The best thing you can do is try and run it once and a while. Wait till the temps get up and then get on it a little to get the Vaines in the turbo moving.

These trucks like to be driven. I am in the same boat as you. I have a company truck so I have only put 300 or so miles on mine since the 1st. of the year. I drive it once a week and now that summer is here I will use it more to tow the 5er with but in the winter she sits alot. Fortunately for me I keep it in a heated garage.

Good Luck

You may want to use some anti-gel for the fuel during the winter just to be on the safe side. As far as the turbo there is not a whole lot you can do other than drive it and exercise the turbo when you are using it.

I also have a company vehicle(thank God)! I purchased my truck in the fall of 06. In the fall of 07 I had appox., 10,000 miles on the truck when the turbo vanes stuck. Not sure if I did not drive it enough or if lot rot at the dealership also played a role. I still don't drive it all that often, but I did switch to synthetic Rotella 5w40 and going with a half dose of Hot Shot at my 15,000 mile oil change for preventative maintanence. I will find out this fall when I head to North Dakota to bowhunt if my turbo is in good shape. My fingers are crossed!!
