Hey guys, I had my cps replaced when the recall started. Now six months later, Im feeling the same thing with my truck. Last week it hickuped once as I accelerated, and this week, it has done it a few more times. Today it actually started to sputter. I remember my blue one did the exact same thing a few years back when everyone jumped on the blue wagon. Could it be something else? I see the rpms drop when it sputters, but I dont know what else to look for. Any one had problems with these new sensors yet? This is frusterating!

Reason: eleminated the word ****
I think I would buy a new gray one and install it myself to see if that corrected the problem before I would take it to the dealer and be told it's a several thousand dollar problem, as I have heard at least some say on this forum they have been told. (that's a long sentence!).
By the way, the replacement should run about $30 in an auto parts store (i don't know what Ford charges), and complete instructions can be found here: Welcome to guzzle's Ford PSD Maintenance Web Page
They have most common maintenance directions complete with pictures. Good luck.
Yea, Ill probably stop by there tomorrow and p/u a new one. I tried so hard to keep the black one they took out, but they wouldnt let me.
My advice, FWIW, I'd order and run an IH CPS, I run them in both my '96 PSD, and this '00 PSD. I like them better and trust them more that I would an Auto Zone one. Or even a Ford one for that matter. I think they smooth the idle out some and quiet down the engine a bit, I just prefer them. If you have an IH dealer near you, that'd be tha way to go, I can give ya aprt #'s if ya need them, they just updated it.
When I had my CPS replaced w/ gray one it died 3 times in the first month, every time it rained...inspected it and found they did not use any die-electric grease...shop foreman said Ford shop manual said it did not call for grease..pulled it greased it and it has not died since...and we have had lots of rain this spring....
Hey M.J., go ahead and post the IH part numbers for the CPS. I'm having a similar problem and may go to IH instead of Ford. Is there a way to tell if they are made by the same company? Or is the appearance different? Thanks for the info.
May want to go ahead and double check with the parts guy when ya order, mine was for a '00, but I'm sure they'd be the same
IH part # 1876735C91 replaces old part # 1825899.
The new ones seem to have a thin cover over the end of the unit, where on the old ones you could see the two "nipples" on the end, you can't see them on these new ones.
Mine was $17.98 plus $1.26 tax = $19.24 out the door. A significant price drop over the last couple of yrs. That's a good thing, even the one for my '96 went down in price!
Hope this helps, good luck with it...
Gary, why do you not have PM? I wanted to ask you something about your truck. Did you paint your grill? We have the same close to the same truck.
HIJACK OVER.
I didn't know you had to set it up Rick. I'll look into it. I didn't paint the grill. If you are talking about the white, it looks stock to me - white plastic, but I got the truck used.
so how do you set up PM and sorry for drifting from the thread.

Had the same problem. If is rained or went through a big puddle....sputter, sputter....changed out two of the units, (same thing), until I read that it should have a grease seal. No problems now.
