Chips?

Hey guys I'm new in here and have a question: what's the best chip/programmer for power/mileage improvements in an 03 7.3L F250? I've got an AFE intake and MBRP 4" exaust, 6 speed manual, 305/75/16's, and 180,000 miles on her. The truck runs great but I really need to get a little better mileage out of it, I'm a blacksmith and put a LOT of miles on my truck for work. Thanks for your input this will be the first of a lot of questions I've got!

Seems most of the diesel tuners on the market are performance based, in all respects just throwing more fuel at the motor to make more power. I doubt you would gain any mileage with any of the tuners available now.

Someone else might chime in to give you a better aspect of things though.

Welcome to FTE Shade. I'd deffinately recommend some gauges, mostly egt before the purchase of any tuner or programer. Personally I would look into either Dp Tuner or TS chip with Tony Wildman tunes http://www.totaldieselperformance.co...ctCode=TDP%5F6.

Yeah I like the TS chip I've read about but I didn't know if that one would raise the top speed limiter too. I don't HAVE to have that but it would be nice. I'm getting 15-18 mpg right now but I drive so much I'd really love to get 20-21 and I figured that wouldn't be hard to get with a good chip. I want a set of pillar pod guages too but wasn't sure which ones to go with.

sounds like your mpg is pretty decent right now. honestly to get even better you might want to ditch those 305's and go with 285's or something and make sure you keep the rpm's under 2,000. a tuner or a chip will definately help with power though.

Another vote for the DP tuner or the TS tuner with Tony wildmans tunes....you can improve your milage if you keep your foot outa it.

The custom tuners change alot of things and dont just add more fuel to help you get better mileage

Right now at 70 mph I'm getting 2000 rpm. I've changed my driving style a good bit and usually stay between 65-70, that's how I get 18mpg.

I think you will be able to get a solid 1-2 mpg more at least with the econ setting from DP. Im not sure what exactly Jody does with the tunes but they do work. Give him a call and talk to him about, Dp Tuner

my mpg has gone up at least 1-2 mpg on the highway and thats not going by what the lie-o-meter overhead says.

I don't have a lie-o-meter but my Dad's '02 350 does and when he put a Superchip in it that thing went from 13 mpg to 21 mpg! He was all excited until he ran through the first tank of fuel then checked it with a calculator, he was only getting 14.

I've got a dp F5 tuner and I gained 2mpg on the 80 e setting. But I lost the 2mpg when I installed the 285 tires.
