Just joined today. I was looking online for some answers to a problem I'm having with my 97 Explorer when I found this site. I've always been a "Ford Guy" so I'm happy to join.
I'm hoping also someone can help me with my problem. Cold my tranny works great, but, as soon as it warms up it begins to slip between shifts from stops or shutdowns. I can manually shift and it works fine but in auto---no go.
The trucks' pedigree is 4WD, 6 cyl. 4.0 with the 5R5EE 5 speed tranny with about 150K miles and I'm the second owner. In the good ole days I would have just replaced the modulator valve (vacuum diaphragm) but it seems this rig has a gizmo called a "digital transmission range sensor". I pulled up the TBS 96-24-10 and read up on it and I must say I'm lost, could this be the problem? If so it looks like a trip to the Ford garage instead of a DYI project.
