I finally got my newly acquired '66 F-100 custom cab to run after more than 10 years of hibernation. It seems to run pretty well too. Anyway, I noticed that there is a metal tube attached to the lower part of the engine block (looks like it's coming out of the water jacket) and it looks like it connects to a coupler on the lower radiator hose. Is this setup factory or did someone rig this up? I am trying to figure out why it is there. Never seen anything like it before.

I found this...
C5TZ-8289-A .. Tee Connector-Transmission Oil Cooler Return Line.
This connector is spliced into the lower radiator hose.
It's part of the Cruise-O-Matic transmission's cooler system.
But...I've never seen this on any F100/350, regardless of the year.
Usually: The A/T lines run directly to the cooler that's in the lower radiator's tank.
Where the cooler is that this tee connector is for, I dunno...couldn't find a thing except for a picture of the connector.
just for info, i have a 65 f100 SWB that came with factory Auto, power brake, power steering, and it has the side mount transmission cooler with the water tube from lower radiator hose. the return is in the heater hose with a "TEE" connector. this tee is located prior to the shut off valve to the heater. it is a factory set up. BE SURE TO WATCH OUT FOR THIS TRANS, it will jump out of park into reverse while idling and will back into what ever is behind it. i know from experience. also when the seals get weak and leak internally, it will take a while after start up for it to go into gear. good luck with your machine. i love both my 65 and 66 F100's
