Tire Size Confusion

I own a '97 F150 ExtendCab Lariat 2x2 and just completed an extensive search for a replacent tire from the GoodYear Wrangler AP tires that were worn out. Since I don't do any off-road or anything that would require an aggressive tread, I decided to go with the Michelin Cross Terrain Series but my exact size was not available (255/70/16) so I called Michelin for recommendations. They advised me that the two preferred options was the 265/70/16 in blackwall only or if I wanted white letters I would have to go to the 265/75/16. Since I wanted the white letters I went with the 265/75/16. Now, the tire is about an inch taller but just slightly more narrow. But after having the tires re-balanced twice, I still experience an occasional "jittery" ride and can seem to feel more roughness in the road. This surprises me with all the research and homework I did in my decision to get a smooth-quiet ride. I recently read an article about how you should replace tires with the exact type and size that orginally came on the truck but I didn't want to go back with the GoodYears, so I am wondering if the tire is too big for the specifications designed for the truck.
Your thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

When the side wall size gets bigger it will generally get stiffer, therefore affecting your ride. Not sure on the balancing issue.

The vibrations you feel, are they primarily in the front region of your truck? If so, have you given much thought to a steering stabilizer? Just a thought! This small trick offers more than it's share of improvement where improved handling is regarded.

Thanks for the info, it appears that I had one or more tires with a defect. I had another set put on and that took care of the problem. I also went with the Michelin Cross Terrain 275/70/16 and am very happy with the ride.
Again thanks for the imput.

And, I will keep the steering stabilizer in mind if I start to develop any other vibrations.
Thanks.
