Does anyone have instructions or know how to remove a steering gear box from a 1964 F100? also does anyone know what is usually replaced during a rebuild. Reason for rebuild is i have adjusted the screw all the way in and can still turn the steering wheel a little less than a quarter of a turn before the wheels turn. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Another option is getting the power steering kit they came out with. I may be wrong but I think it eliminates your current gear box and replaces with the a rack and pinion system.
NAPA can cross these Ford part numbers over to the brands they sell. The two steering shaft bearings/races, the seal and gasket are the same as 1965/66 Mustang (!) uses.
When one buys a "rebuilt" gearbox, these are the only parts that have been replaced, because the steering shaft worm / the sector shaft have been obsolete for over 25 years.
In an internet search, I found eleven NOS (new, old stock) steering shaft worms, and two NOS sector shafts.
