removing original cassette player

Hello,
I am new here, so I searched for a thread first. If I missed it I apologize. But anyhow, I have 1996 F150 with almost 324,000 on it and well, the cassette player finally went to the grave. I tried and tried to figure out how to remove it, but then I went "Irish" on it and started prying and pulling pieces and it's loose now, but not coming out. Yep, i should have found this forum and asked first...but now what? Do I have to remove molding and such?

signed,
"needs to learn to ask for advice before prying"

You should have a Stereo Removal Tool. AutoZone Has them for $4. Search your local AutoZone for "Stereo Removal Tool" or most any auto parts store.

Yeah.. you need to remove the plastic trim around the radio/heater controls.. it should pry off. Then you'll see a pair of bolts/screws on either side of the radio, remove these and the radio should slide out... you may have to reach under the dash and unplug the antanae. There are wiring adapters kits available now for aftermarket stereos so you don't need to hack up the truck wiring harness. These attach to the aftermarket radio wiring and then you just plug it in.

For the 87-91 dash, the trim ring pops off and there's two screws (Torx on my old 90) and that was all.

On the 92+ dash, you'll need a radio removal tool or stout set of nails. Do yourself a favor and buy the tool.

on the 92+ trucks you don't have to remove any part of the dash or trim to get the radio out using the tools.

yeah just shove the 2 "U" shaped tools into the holes on the corner and then use the 2 key shaped tools to push a sort of thing behinde the radio on top of each corner. Then just pull the tools and out goes the radio
