speaker capacitor?

speaker capacitor?

I got a used CD player off ebay to fix my old one, and the guy had put one of these on the wiring for each speaker. They seem to be some kind of capacitor. I was just curious as to whether they actually did anything.

speaker capacitor?

looks like a bass blocker or an inline crossover to block off low frequencies.
