Master Cylinder Removal
My situation is the slave cylinder on my 85 4.9L exploded. SROD and external slave cylinder. I can't tell if it came off the bellhousing first and exploded when the clutch was depressed or if it blew up first, knocking it off of the bellhousing. All that's left is about half of the body. Sure was loud! There was NO fluid left in the hose that runs between the master and slave cylinders.
I replaced the slave cylinder only. I attempted to bleed the system and found that the master cylinder seems to not be pumping any fluid. With the reservoir full, and after many strokes of the clutch pedal, nothing has left the reservoir and nothing has gone down the hose. The bleed screw was removed from the master cylinder during the process. Suspecting the master cylinder may be bad as well, I tried to see if the rod from the clutch pedal to the master cylinder was still attached and/or moving.
Here are my questions:
I absolutely could not find the rod to the master cylinder attached to the clutch pedal anywhere. Nor could I see a boss or anything where the rod SHOULD have been attached to the pedal or anywhere it penetrated the firewall. Should this thing be easy to find?
Secondly, the master cylinder appears to be fastened to the firewall from the INSIDE the cab, as there are no visible fasteners on the outside of the master cylinder. Is this true?
Any insight into why I can't get this system bled or the master cylinder to pump fluid is greatly appreciated.
