I have a 2006 F-250 that is really hard to start. It takes about 4-6 seconds everytime I go to start it. I have brought it to the local Ford dealer 3 times now and they still can't figure out what is wrong with it. They said that the batteries were weak but I changes both of them and still the same. Has anyone else heard of this or had this problem?
Our diesel engines need to crank long enough for the high pressure oil pump to develop the 500 psi needed to fire the injectors. A 4 to 6 second cranking time does not sound out of line.
Use of some aftermarket oil filters will increase crank time because the filter housing drains down when the engine is shut down. If non-OEM filters were used in your last oil change, I would start there. Swapping out oil filters is very simple on our trucks and is worth doing if the filter is suspect.
Thanks for the reply. I always have the dealer change the oil and they use factory replacement parts. They had to change the high pressure oil pump on the truck and also some type of screen on the turbo. I work with a bunch of guys here that all have diesel trucks and mine is the only one that spins over for that long.
