fm radio

Hello all, took my tt up to where we are camping and found fm radio reception sucks. I searched the radio forums and couldnt get an answer there. My question is is there a better anttana you can buy or a boooster or do I just have to live with it the way it is.

I think if your regular antenna doesn't pull in the FM stations, the stations are just TOO far away....or you have a problem with your antenna system. But yes, there ARE boosters you can buy to install between the antenna and the Radio. Have you tried to hook up your TV antenna (just to check) to se if it pulls the stations in any better? TV sound and FM are VERY close to the same frequencies. Usually the TV antennas in RV's are electronically boosted. Use a 75 ohm to 300 ohm adapter pn your TV cable. I think everyone has one of them left over at home from the old days.

Does the truck radio pick up the FM stations ok?

My antenna on the camper is usually laying flat from hitting branches etc. Climb up and see.

Not laying flat checked that. Yes my truck radio seems to work ok (just a little more hiss etc. I never thought about the tv ant trick but will try it. Another note I am up in the mountains so that might be the problem. I do get fm but it fades in and out something fierce.

Make a Dipole antenna and suspend it from some trees to get some height.

In the Colorado mountains I never got FM unless it was local in the hills. I would say bring CDs or a cheap mp3 player along, because it's a lot easier than modding your antenna systems.

A lot of radio reception problems in the mountains aren't because of lack of signal, but because the signals tend to bounce around off the rocks. I've gotten into trouble with a CB before because the signal just went everywhere and became totally incomprehensible. It's a common problem with ELTs in aircrafts. They can't be located because the signal seems to be comming from every bounch and not the point of origin.

I agree, xm or serius. I have serius and love it, I have been all over new england and down to wv all still listening to the same commercial free radio. If for nothing else, commercial free is worth it. Everytime i get into a car without satalite radio, it drives me bonkers due to the friggin talk talk talk.
