Dumb question...

I Have been currently running open exhaust manifolds as i just put my truck back together..i was told it is bad to run open exhaust manifold because you can foul a valve, is this true? and if so how would i know if i had fouled a valve?

If you run a motor without headers or exhaust manifold, just open ports, you can burn an exhaust valve, because the valve will not cool properly. I don't think that applies to an open manifold. Also running it that way for a brief period should not hurt the valve.

You will know if you have a burnt exhaust valve when you try to get it to idle. It will be rough, and there may be some popping sound.

I'd be a little hesitant to run just open manifolds because they dump so soon; it could warp a valve. There is less of a risk with open hedders because they are longer. I drove my truck with open hedders across town to the exhaust shop and it was OK.
