I have a 95 F-150 5.0 with a vacuum leak. I know where it is comming from but i have no idea how to fix it. There is about a 3 inch gray piece that goes straight up at the back of my engine, right behind the intake. The top of the gray piece is hex shaped and I think its an 1 1/4. There is also an upside down u shaped hose with a metal piece at the end of the hose that sits right on top of this gray piece. I can't see where the hose comes from but it ends at the gray piece. They are not connected, but it looks like there is a piece missing to connect the two. When my truck idles it will rev way up and rev way down, almost to the point where it dies. It started doing this after i noticed the vacuum leak. My fuel mileage has gone way down because of this as well. If anyone can help me out on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Not real familiar with a 5.0, never had one but what you explain, is that a 1 1/4" falr nut? sounds like the big thermactor system lines on the back of a motor rather then vacuum lines?
But them them tend to leak exhaust and rumble something terrible, not suck air.
Exhaust leaks will make a motor run bad, could you post a picture of it?
