Sandblaster Question

I purchased a 40lb pressurized sandblaster from Harbor Freight and have it feed from a Quincy QT5 compressor. The media stream starts out fine and then the blaster periodically dumps a heavy stream of sand and then goes back to normal. It creates a real mess. Any suggestions I what I can do to fix the problem. The manual is useless.

There should be a valve to regulate the amont of sand at the bottom of the tank,,,I allow a very small amount to maximize the air as compared to sand ..You may need more compressor ..When it begins to act up ,you may need to wait for more pressure .The valves also have been known to freeze up if you don't have a real good drying system....

Ditto!! Occasional find I have to purge the sys. using valve at the regulator, seems no matter how hard I try condensation will occasionally cause the nozzle to back up, sometimes able to solve this by inserting small gage wire in nozzle oriface.

Also: Purchased simular, if not same, pressure sand blaster off ebay and initially would not get the damn thing to work hardly at all. Found the media was too coarse so went to a fine glass bead, or alum. oxide and eliminated the problem. Also purchase the HF cabinet sandblaster and use it with the pressure blaster, wow!!.

If you're having trouble with water go to TP Tools & Equipment and check out there setup. here is a link to some pictures of what i did in my shop, i have some seriously dry air. My Shop pictures from rides photos on webshots

If you choose to plumb you system like this, prepair to spend some time thinking it over, it was quite a job to lay everything out correctly, IMO. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

I'd love to try out a pressure assist blaster and get rid of my syphon blaster.

Nicely set up Duke!
Blasters need LOTS of DRY AIR. Make sure you have enough compressor (5+ REAL HP - not peak, 2 cyl, dual stage (?), 60 gal tank, 18+ cfm, 150psi) and a dryer - heat or dessicant.
