A buddy of mine has a 1999 F-350 with about 165K on the 7.3 PSD and this morning he went to accelarate from a stop and when he stepped on the gas, nothing happened except the service engine light came on and then went off right away. He then let off the gas and tried to accelerate again and it worked the second time. This problem happened 3 times this morning on his way to work. I hooked my code reader up to it and it showed no trouble codes and seemed to operate fine. The truck was just at the dealer for them to replace a cam sensor under a recall. Has anyone had somthing similar happen? If so, what was the cause and how can we fix it?
Also sometimes the exhaust back pressure valve in the turbo sticks and its slow to go when you pull out. I had that problem one time i pulled out before letting the motor warm up enough and it didn't want to go, like it was starving for fuel. Only happened that one time. Good luck.
I just joined the forum for this same problem. My truck has always been great and them I took it in for the cam sensor recall.A week later it acts like its starving for fuel wanting to die when i put the pedal down in normal driving conditions.I changed the fuel filter but nothing.
Welcome to FTE, others will chime in to help you also. The best thing, if you know somebody that has a code reader, pull some code,s for you. Did you check your air filter? Could be dirty.
What kind of a scan tool are you using? The PSD's aren't OBD II compliant so if you don't have one that is specifically for the ford diesel's it won't read them properly. Sometimes it's the pedal assembly. These trucks don't have a linkage, they are fly by wire. Sometimes the sensor on the pedal goes bad.
Alex,
I've had the same thing the last week. 1-2 times a day I let off throttle to coast and when I push again, nothing. I let off and push and it works fine until it decideds it wants to play again. Yesterday it did it 3 pushes in a row with a check engine light. It appears the throttle signal is being interupted. I called and talked to the dealer yesterday. They say it sounds to them that the throttle controll sensor mounted at the base of the throttle pedal is going bad. They want $259 for a new one. It comes as one unit with the pedal itself. They say this is not an uncommon situation.
As for me, I'll wait and play around a little first before I spend that money. I unpligged the two wiring harnesses hooked to the sensor and made sure they were clean and blew them out and hooked them back up. No problems today. I'll keep you posted.

Paul I am with you here I think you nailed it I would check with direct ford parts to see if they have the TPS cheaper. It is only a sensor I wouldn't think there is a need for the whole Petal to be replaced

This is exactly what his truck is doing. Im using a Mac Tools OBDII reader, it should work, right? On thing i noticed when i connected the tool, when i selected the read code function, it killed the motor and wouldn't restart till i unpulgged the reader. He checked the 3 wires comming from the tps and everything seems ok. So the fix looks like a tps...maybe?

X2 for me. I havent had a chance to check it with AE but my first thought when it happend, was I need a new TPS.
I've had my pedal assembly go out three times on my truck. I had a faulty ECM that was frying pedals. My gas pedal worked randomly. It's about a $100 part at the dealership.
