I use a trailer alot with my Excursion. I have (had) a bad habit of opening the back window to see the trailer when backing up and aways worried about it hitting the top of my garage door. I guess I did not worry enough because I did it and it broke out the rear glass but that looks like about all the damage. Anyone know where I can pickup a new or used back glass. Its a 2001, dark tint, and heated, I can do the install. Thanks Charlie
i think your beat on that one. you would probably have a hard time finding one and would pay almost full price at a junkyard. it would be best to call a glass company and get it from there.
time to invest in a backup camera. WAY cheaper, and never too late. Haven't price out a side window, but I think the back one is more. But who am I to say.
When you install the back window, make sure it is adjusted to still close and not interfere with the bottom doors. When I bought mine, the back window was replaced a few years earlier and who ever installed it put it in a little low and the bottom of the glass took paint off the doors. there seem to be studs attached to the glass that you screw on when you glue the glass in, so you can adjust before the glue sets. I had to adjust the top hinge to get the glass to sit high enough to fix problem. Good luck.
Got one better than that. We use to own a 92 Suburban. Wife and I busted out the rear glass not once , not twice but THREE times in about 5 months (me once, she did it twice) My insurance covered it all three times but the glass folks had fun with us ! Price was the same the first two times ($1200) , third time it was $1600. The X does not go in the garage !
The Mito back up camera / 3rd brake light assembly is the way to go. Best camera I have out of 4 vehicles with them - clear, wide picture and fits in with the vehicles. Pictures in my gallery. That with the bumper sensors has saved me a lot of grief (so far)...
i think that the side windows are about $1000. and the problem with the top rubbing the paint off the barn doors, thats a common problem with almost everyones X.

I had an 84 Suburban that was also jinxed. I had replaced the windshield twice when someone broke into it by knocking out the small window in the rear passenger door. I had to drive it to my uncle's funeral with duct tape covering the opening. On the way back, I was driving down the road and was right in front of the glass shop when a truck traveling the other direction threw a rock into the windshield breaking it for the third time. I really kidded them when I took it back in to have two pieces of glass replaced, one of them having been broken right in front of their shop. They joked about having the rock slinger truck on the payroll!

Where did you find the camera set-up?? What I really, really,REALLY like though were the rear door compartments..If I had those most of my on board tools would be there instead of the box they're in now...Where did those come from ?????

I just put the rear door storage bins on this past weekend - got them from fordpartsdirect.com, someone wrote about that parts outfit on here. I had been eyeing them for a while on ebay as well. I think $170 is what I paid. Probably more than they're worth but I have them filled with crap already - tow straps, hooks, tools, etc. so I'm happy with them.
The camera is from Mito corp and replaces the 3rd upper brake light. It's hooked to a pioneer avic nav / satellite entertainment system. That was maybe $1000 installed, the camera a add on a week later for about $400. There are lesser cost camera's, but like the poster and photo's above, I didn't want to mount the camera low (even though it can be tilted) because I sometimes put a rear cargo carrier on the back with a giant marine cooler...it would block the camera completely. Truckaddons.com offered the Mito also but after 3 mos. of being told it's on backorder from the manufacturer, I called them (Mito) directly and had it within 3 days.
hey, i just saw your camera. i like it. i think i might get that one. mine just got broken last week along with all my sensors, bumper, trailor hitch. i got rear ended while sitting still by a windstar minivan going 50 mph. i can bet that people are saying how stupid i am backing up into something being i have a camera and sensors. lol. oh yeah, the thing about seeing with a cooler on the hitch, your right. when i have my car trailr hooked to it, its great though.
