Still trying to track down the annoying squealing sound on my truck that only happens above 1000 RPM, and I'm thinking it's the belt. I noticed that it's hardly even taut (belt looks fairly new), so I think the belt tensioner may be worn out.
Can I even get a new belt tensioner for this thing? It's got the hydraulic damper on it, and all the ones the parts stores list are not that kind.
I would think you couldn't get the right tensioner for it. If it the belt squealing then you can find that. Run it for a minute or two while it is squealing. Shut it down and feel the pulleys. The one slipping causing the squeal will be hot.
NAPA carries a correct replacement but it doesn't have the hookup for the dampener. The parts stores and the dealer all carry the open spring design which won't work if you had the closed spring design because there is nothing in the block for the tensioner to load against.
Damn...well that figures. Maybe I could just try some belt dressing then.
Oh, and you have to either have it under a load or rev the engine to get it to squeal...so I dunno if it'd be that easy to find where it's actually coming from. I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually slipping on the alternator, but I can't really tell.
i had to replace my belt tensioner in downtown seattle after it decided to explode on me 300 miles from home.and i beleive i got mine from schucks there and the tensioner cost me the same amount as my belt and if you let it go you will have to replace both probably cause the fan will chew the hell out of the belt so if ya want to save some money just replace the tensioner before you have to replace the belt as well.the tensioner is really easy to put on.if ya need some help let me know
a reason you cant find the right one is because its a 94 on my 94 i have to verify a couple times with the parts counter people that im getting the right part because it was also the year they brought out the powerstroke.if you wanna try this tell them its a 93 turbo diesel or non turbo diesel i have had a huge issue with people trying to sell me powerstroke parts.make sure its for the k vin and not the h the h is for powerstroke the k is for the idi's
could it possibly be the ball bearing? mine has one, i replaced my tensioner, but mine was spring loaded, and the new one spun pretty good, and the old one not so well.
