My 92 F350 started spraying fuel when coming up the Gorge and making a lot of smoke from hitting the exhaust. I could not see any spray from just reving up. We had it towed home and fired it up but no apperant leaks. There was a light covering of fuel on bracket for banks filter and on front of intake cover. We had stopped to receive a call on the cell phone, (we lose signal in and out of the gorge) when we saw the smoke from under the hood. I opened the hood and the haze left. We didn't want to have a fire and get stranded farther up the road so we called AAA . I felt around all the lines to and from the IP but no wet spots. When we started the engine, I could not see any leaks. There is a red plastic cap on the top side, at the right height where the film seems to be the most. Last week I replaced a leaking seal on feed line to IP and had checked the oultlet lines then. Any help would be appreciated.
I have been having problems with Wix or Napa Gold (the same fuel filter) leaking from the where the bottom screws on. I've only had this problem since they changed the design. I've been through 3 of them in 4 months. I am now trying a Fram fuel filter.
You probably already checked around the fuel pump. Maybe the fan is blowing fuel around. The only other thing I can think of is maybe you have a return line leak that leaks fuel down into the valley, where when you go up a hill it runs out the drainhole in the rear and runs down on the exhaust where you don't see it.
