Yesterday, I noticed that the return line between cylinders 1 and 3 is wet w/fuel. It's not leaking onto the intake, but is wet nonetheless. How difficult and expensive is it, to replace the return lines?
E-Z to do, two clamps and a new piece of line. You also should replace the plastic tee on top of the injector by undoing the metal injector line. That said, Any time I've done it I replaced the whole set. The kit was about $60 from ford.
I replaced my return lines with a clear blue urethane fuel line. I got tired of the short life of the braided lines and regular fuel line. The added bonus is that it easy to see if there is any air in the system.
I got the urethane line from somewhere online that was selling it as rated for biodiesel. I know, that was a big help. It says Parts Unlimited urethane 1/4" i.d. on it. Most likely, it is the same Parts Unlimited company that sells motorcycle supplies. If you have a motorcycle shop near you, you might be able to get it through them. I will poke around some more later and see if I can find out where I got it online.
At the bottom of that page has a dealer locator link.
The line is only rated to 220 degrees F. Where is runs across the back of the engine, I sleeved it in a plastic split flex conduit/loom. I wouldn't use it for any high pressure applications or let it come in contact with any hot metal, but for my truck between the return caps, it has worked great so far. It is more flexible than the black rubber lines and really grips onto the plastic return caps. You should get new spring clamps for it when you order it, as the old ones are too big.
