i'm looking for recommendations for replacement shocks for my '49 F-1. it will be a summer driver, short trips, no heavy loads. am just looking for a brand and model of shock that will work. thanks for your help. dick r.
I bought Red Ryders for my '52. They're cheap, they work OK. Sometimes I wish for a little more damping, but I suspect ride would really suffer. I got them at Auto Zone.
ross, i knew one of you pros would have an answer for me. could autozone look it up or did you come in with dimensions, an old shock or what. thanks to you and the others, i am tooling around in the f-1, "fine tuning" the ride. dick r
Dick, altho it's a pain, I suggest you take all 4 shocks off your truck, letting the truck settle down onto just the suspension. Measure the distance tween the mounting points, (eye to eye,or bolt to bolt) that is the correct length you will need. From there you can spend as much as you like on shocks. Like most things, better = more $$
It says you 'll put 31000s in the front, and 32207s in the back (if you aren't hauling anything) or 58486s in the back if you carry stuff occassionally.
Mine were $25 for a pair of 31000s and made a nice difference to my ride when I put them on.
