What I do is determine what circuit is drawing by removing fuses one at a time to narrow down where to go from there.

I would add to this post, if you have a good DVOM (Digital Volt Ohm Meter) unhook your positive battery cable and set your DVOM to milliamps hook one lead to the battery on the positive post and the other lead to the positive battery cable. On an old pickup like that you should see no more than 30 milliamps, and more than likely that is for the radio on something this old. Then do as the post above said, pull one fuse at a time and see what the DVOM says, once the reading drops you know what circuit is the problem. Then you can look at a wire schematic and any accessories you have added to that wire until you find the item causing the drain. If everything appears fine on your drain you might have a problem with the battery it self.

Not a whole lot a fuses on a '61, but pulling fuses is a start. If you didn't have the problem before the motor install, I would first suspect the starter or generator/alternator. Not too much else should have possible power with the ignition off. Light switch could be bad - the rheostat (sp?) for dimmer. Brake light may be leaking juice. Just some thoughts...

A friend had a similar problem on a '67 mustang. Turned out it was the voltage regulator. It would drain the battery overnight. Replaced the voltage regulator and the problem went away.

Hey thanks for the info i don't have a digital milli meter but a friend told me i could do the same thing with a 12volt tester the kind that has a light in it looks like a needle..I'll try that and pulling the fuses one at a time that should get me started in the right direction....Thanks Again everyone
