ok guys and gals i have a 1967 f100 with a 240 in it... i was having lots of problems with this truck in the past but i have replaced alot and things seemed to be going my way until the other day i went to go start it and the battery went dead after about 4 or 5 cranks... so i took the starter, the alternator, and the battery to get tested and all is well... so i purchased a new solenoid starter relay and the voltage regulator hoping to have a cheap quick fix, well here is what hapened next... the battery still drained in about 4 or 5 cranks so i went to jump the battery and my ignition was in the off position and when i connected the cables the truck tried to start... thinking i had a bad ignition switch (which i did) i charged to battery and bought a new switch and ignition lock... i went to connect the battery and the truck tried to start again and now it wont start at all... not only am i confused but very frustrated... and the wiring on the alternator is all spliced and ghetto rigged so i do not know which wire is what other than the grd and battery plus there is a wire that grounds out under the voltage regulator and i am curious about it.... the starter had marks on it like it was arcing but i tested it and its fine the only thing i can think off is the solenoid start relay is wired wrong any ideas please helppp asap
i had a stray wire coming off of the alternator fld touching the battery wire that was grounded out... go figure... anyways now im down to the problem of it not starting sounds like timing.... it sounds like it wants to start im thinking i either got timing 180 out or i fried the alternator... but would it even try to start if the alternator was fried?
truck runs like a pro... rebuilt engine new radiator new electrical its coming along nice... only problem now is the damn valve cover leaks i even replaced the gasket today just to see if that was the problem no luck anoyone know where to get a nice new valve cover

My 390 has some real crap-*** Valve Covers...they are made out of steel and bend all out of shape when you tighten them down.....even with new gaskets, they eventually leak, try looking for a "cast" valve cover, usually made of aluminum, the base is a bit more rigid and keeps up constant pressure across the gasket.
