Considering purchasing an excursion

Im considering purchasing an excursion. I currently have an 03 expedition and we are expecting twins which would give us 5 lil ones. so the excursion would give us all the room we need. I will be towing a 10k boat with this baby. Im set on getting a desiel,4x4, with quad captains seats. My questions/ concerns revolve around the different years and their reliability, and engine configuration. 7.3 vs 6.0. Will one perform better towing vs the other, and which is more reliable?

Thanks for all you input it is greatly appreciated

Jeff

Jeff I too am looking for an excursion and just wanted to tell you good luck with twins, you are crazier than I am! I have 4 and 2 are twins that is why I am going for the X. I do have the Expedition EL right now which is bigger than your 03 but towing 10K with it wouldnt work!!!

I have heard that the 7.3 is better but I have heard the same about the 6.0 so I am no help!!!

Try sticking with 7.3, if it really comes to 6.0 avoid years 03 and 04.5 atleast, the later 6.0 should be ok.

if i stick with the 7.3 what changes were made if any to them between the years? Also since fuel prices are where they are and i purchase this as a tow vehicle only how long can i let it sit before diesel fuel gums up or forms algae ect?

Good luck Jeff. We just upgraded from a 98 Expedition to the 05 Excursion. I am only towing 7800 pounds, but looked at the diesels as well. I was leaning towards the 7.3, but then decided that the cost and the fuel costs pushed me towards the V10. I also went with the bench, but was looking for the quads as well. Best of luck in your search. I got a great deal on this one, so I figured I would upgrade to the quads later, if needed. However, mine is only for vacations and family outings, 5k miles a year or less, and I only have 2 kids, but 3 big dogs!
