2wd Excursion Suspension question

I have been reading alot about the V/B code spring conversion. Seems like all the talk is about Leafs, or am I wrong? I have coils on mine in the front and i now feel it neccesary to use my 7.3 to back up my crappy 6.0 PSD. I will be using it to tow a Jeep that weighs about 4500#'s and Trailer that weighs about 3600#'s. I have a sway bar on it, Roadmaster active Suspension on the rear, and I use a WD hitch. I have some serious sag on one spring in the rear. It sags about 1-1.5 inches.

If I wanted to beef up all of them could use the springs off my 06 Superduty front and rear? I would like to beef up the entire Ex. Not sure if I need it to beef up as much as the F250 though. Are the V/b Codes the ones I am looking for?

Thanks in advance.

Okay..let me see if I got all this.

You have a 7.3L 2WD Excursion with RAS, Helwig and you use a WD hitch. One spring sags in the rear more than the other.

Sound right?

Now, do you want to beef up the rear (?) suspension or front AND rear?

You are considering V/B codes?

B's are fine for the rear but will give more lift that I think you want. if you want and equal amount of lift on the front I'm not sure that the coils are letter codes like the leaf springs. Certainly a spring from a F-350 CC PSD would have a higher spring rate than what is on your Ex but to what degree I'm not sure. I also do not think that you can use the coils from your 06 unless it, too, is a 2WD. (They had coils up front for 4WD starting in 05)

If I were in the same situation I would first look to find out why that particular spring pack isn't supporting like the other. Maybe a leaf is cracked/broken. I would get the rears repaired/replaced to stock rates and let the RAS that you bought take up the sag.

That's the course I would take simply because it sounds like the simplest, cheapest solution.

I would like to do the front and the rear. The Ex frame is basically the same at the F250 Frame. So I am thinking the the springs front and rear out of an F250 2wd will work fine. I think the basic model 2wd F250 with out the straight front axle had springs and the 05-06 had springs. My F250 Superduty 4x4 '06 model has springs that measure correct in diameter.

Uh...okay...have at it then! Let us know how it turns out with out putting 06 4x4 front coils and a 2WD. Could be an interesting mod/solution for those who want to lift their 2WD's inexpensively. I know I wouldn't mind it.

When my 6.0 gets out of the shop. Yeah I have problem one and my 7.3 '02 is the back up to my '06. Sad I know. When it gets out I will take some more measurements so get an idea of compressed hieght. Should be able to get quite a few measurements. I would like to lift it 2" or less. That should not cause any major issues. I will let you know what I find out. The main thing is to get the rear springs up to a better standard.
