my 83 4.9l seems to be smoking from the valve cover gasket, i put a new one in but it still doing it, i think i know what it is, i just forgot what its called. do i need to rebuild my top end? please help. new ford owner lol.
The only thing I can think of that you are talking about is oil mist coming out of one of the breathers or hoses on top of the cover. You need to check the PCV valve and make sure it has suction when the engine is idling.
no its not that. Im thinking my head gasket is blown. im not sure what it is though. im not familiar with these engines although there easy to work on. i will start it tom. and see what happens i dont want to mess it up anymore though.
If you head gasket were blown you'd be getting coolant in the cylinders. The oil coming from your valve covers is either the valve cover gasket or the PCV valve is clogged and it building up pressure and leaking from your hoses
