84 F-250.460 4x4.8-lug.Manual lockout hubs.
Canadian made truck.
I am trying to get the rotors off of this thing, and its not going well.Ive tried 2 different sockets to try and get this wheel bearing lock nut off.Its a big pic i know, but right now,I need to get this thing done and back on the road. The outside silver lock nut is about 2-7/8" across.Would autozone carry those sockets?????
I tried the biggest socket carquest had,and it was still to small. Is this an odd truck or something with a overly huge front axle??Im about to burn this thing to the ground and take a dump on the left over dog house.
That "nut" is actually not a nut. It's a gear and is splined to match the spindle.
First you have to remove the "C" clip that holds the center piece in if you haven't already. I can't tell by the pictures.
Then slide the center piece out. There will be a big spring behind it and a thrust washer.
Then using a really sharp pick, you have to remove the locking ring that holds that outer piece into the spindle. Look hard and you will see a split in the ring.
Gently pry the ring out and watch that it doesn't go flying.
Then, put one or two of the long allen screws that hold the lockout hub back in and pull it straight out. You might have to wiggle it back and forth a little, but it just slides out.
You are still going to need either a 4 or 6 lug socket to get the spindle lock nut off......
