Misconceptions with Lifts

Why do Lift Co's. do this? I have been researching a particular lift and i find it a bit confusing....

Here you have a 7" lift being offered and yet the front spring pack is rated at 6" over stock? Rear is 8" (Assume that the block it replaces is 2") and you have in essence a 6" lift.

Presuming the lift expects you to retain the 2" block, the 7" figure would be the average of the 6" in front and the 8" in rear.

Figures stated for lifts are always nominal figures, as the true amount of lift gained will depend on how much the original springs have sagged.

mmmm.... You lost me here.... At stock height, the X includes the 2' blocks in the rear correct? So, if there's 8" springs in the back, does the X not now sit 8" over stock? My sense is that the kit assumes the block is removed and the 8" rear and 6" front balance out. BUT at 6" and not 7" as it is marketed as....

In any event, it is false advertising i feel. They do not know what your ride height is and as such, how can they use this in determining the lift height??? IF anything, it should be based on stock ride height. Installing 6" springs in the front gives the truck an increase of 6" over stock, not 7". I will be calling them tomorrow for more information..... This is not the first time i have seen this though so ICON is not the only one using this play on words....

Cheers,

The kit's lift-height would not assume you remove the block; most lifts re-use all the stock equipment, so the 8" lift springs should give you 8" of lift in the rear, not 6", though I suppose you could always omit the original block to get only 6" of lift overall in the rear if that's what you wanted.

Again, those figures are nominal, not actual, inches of lift. I would be quite shocked if the lift produced EXACTLY the amount of difference from stock that it is advertised at.
