I've got a 2001 F-250 Super Duty 4x4, that has been one hell of a good truck. Wthout borring you all with all the particulars, the tranny had to be pulled twice in three weeks. Ran good for 2 days, then fuel mileage went in the tank, and it was running reel rough, but no codes. Then 2 days later, I get a code for misfire on 8, in the back by the firewall, of course. I had the plugs changed 12,000 miles ago. So I start pulling fuel rail to get at it and find the coil mounting braket on 2 is broken, and coil is wedged up against fuel rail. Go to put new coil, and find the plug isn't screwd in. Every time it fired it would pop up and hit rail. Go to put newplug, and threwds are stripped. I chased threwds with tap, but the holeis wollowed out from the plug moving around. I go to the shop that changed plugs, and of they don't know anythig about it. QUESTION: Is there any way to fix without pulling the head and manfold? Does any one have any suggestions?
Quite a few people who have had blown spark plugs on their 5.4's have used a product called Timesert. Supposed to be a good product, but a little pricey. If you do a search for "timesert", you should be able to find info from someone who's actually used it.
