My F6 widowmaker wheel replacement experience
#106
It has the original wheels all round at present, and I'd like to know if these are the so-called "widow makers", and if so, what is my best option to replace them with.
If I'm going to have to change the wheels, I want an original old style wheel to replace them with, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
Although I may consider putting traditional style aluminum wheels on, and any suggestions in that regard would be appreciated.

We're gonna have to either see pictures of your wheels, or look at these pics to see if they look like your wheels. This is a widowmaker.
Pretty much all that can be said on this subject is in this and a few other threads. There were aluminum wheels made by Alcoa back in the 1970s IIRC having your 5 lug x 8" pattern in a 19.5" size. They are very rare. I've seen one truck with a set, and saw two for sale on ebay probably 5 years ago. Here's a couple other threads with info on these wheels. Stu

F-6 wheels
Hi, thanks for the answer.
I haven't even seen the truck in the flesh yet, as I'm in New Zealand and the truck is still with Gene who I bought it off in the USA, and I don't even know what size they are.
They certainly look to be original though, as the whole truck appears to be untouched from the day it was made.
There's a few pics of it on the internet if you Google F-6, with the faded red paint and a later model Ford pickup in the background.
If you have an email address you can send me, I'll send pics of the truck, as I couldn't figure out how to attach them to this reply sorry.

I assume this is your COE truck. Nice shape. But I really can't tell whether the wheels are widowmakers from this shot. I wrote down your email address, but would suggest you go back in to your post and edit it out. It's a good way to invite spam. If you have additional pics I'll look at them and post them for you. I've been thinking that's the way I'll go when I finally get rid of my widow makers. I'm getting anxious to drive my truck... That's at least a $3K investment, but I don't plan to sell my truck, and I want to know the wheels, tires and brakes are reliable. Someday, one of my grandkids might want to drive it.

Also have a set of 19.5" wheels but you would lose some ride height with those.
Im in Utah so would need to be shipped, Ive done the fastenal shipping route before with good results and cost.
