EGT Prob Problem
well was under my truck this am and noticed that there was a little soot on my manifold. while investigating it i noticed that its pretty loose and wont tighten up. what can i do and how bad is this going to be on the turbo and engine if the prob falls out..

If the probe tip broke off and get blown into the exhaust side of the turbo, you would know immediately, high egts, crazy noise etc. Not ever having had that problem (Lord knows I have enough of my own LOL) I would guess your probe is corroded from heat?? Maybe you could plug it with a steel pipe plug temporarily. Also, if you need to retap it, I've heard of folks doing that while the engine is running, so the exhaust pressure blows the shavings out.

Sounds like the pipe tap went too deep when tapping the thread..maybe.. If it is a 1/8 npt , you could drill and tap it for a 1/4 npt thread and get a different probe with 1/4 npt thread.. as a fix.. If it is already a 1/4 npt, not sure how you could fix it.. but i am sure someone else will chime in here soon.. But, it is important to keep the probe tight without leaks..

thanks for the tips. i'm assuming you couldn't get the original fitting welded to the manifold. i'm pretty sure its a 1/4 NPT. i bet the tap went to deep, it tightend down good when installed (pretty sure anyway). tip aint broke, no loud noises and EGT are not high.
