Ive been thinking about upgrading my truck(1992). I have a friend that is looking to sell his 97 for 2700. Its 4x4 offroad, reg cab long box with a 4.6 with about 130,222. It is in fairly good condition with a little body damage, but no bad rust areas. I was wondering if this is a worth while investment? My truck now has nothing wrong with it, but I wouldn't mind getting something newer. Are there any common problems with this year truck?? He says he gets about 15-16 mpg with normal driving, what are yall getting on average?? Im just looking for now since my truck is running fine but if it does get around 15 mpg I might seriously look into it. Thanks for any info!!
I get 16 to 17 mpg with a 5-speed with 174,xxxmi, So far the only problem Iv had was the clutch went out at 150,000mi. I love mine, paid to much for it but other than that its been a great truck.
why would you want a different truck? If you have maintained yours i see no reason. Your best bet is to hold onto the 92 until they come out with new technology to really increase gas mileage.
thats what i am thinking, my truck now is fine but it is a decent deal for the one im looking at. He offered to knockoff 300 for a toolbox I dont want(2400 now). I would be getting better mileage and the truck would be newer. I would like to keep the rims and tires on my truck now but I dont think the rims would fit. Im still deciding haha.
Marc, I would stay with your 92. YOU know the history of your 92 and you probably know every little thing about it. In fact I miss my 96....I loved that body style, just needed more room. The 4.6 mod motor is very different from what you have in your truck, which I'm assuming is eithe a 300 or a 302 motor or could even be a 351.
Good Luck with your choice

yea that is true i do know everything about my baby and after researching it, the 97 doesn't get much better mileage than the one I have. my truck gets about 11-13 on average and I do mostly city(country) driving. I think I may just save the money and when the ol girl decides to die I'll upgrade then I think.
