Yes, but that's what you need to worry about. It has to have the right balance weight and the right offset for the tranny it will get bolted to. If the balance isn't right the motor will vibrate, and if the offset isn't right you'll destroy the tranny oil pump the first time the motor is fired, and that will send steel shavings throughout the tranny.. bringing about a tranny rebuild before you leave the driveway. Make absolutely sure you have the right flexplate for the job.
Conanski, don't you run this combo. Even though you run an AOD, isn't that the same as the AODE or 4r70w?
You used one from a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis, right?
I have the 5.8 and the old fully mechanical AOD.. and that exact combo was available from Ford in the Police Crown Vic, so that flexplate exists. The AODE/4R70W could probably use the same flexplate, but I don't know how similar these trannys are. On the TCI web site they offer parts and kits for the 4R70W with a 5.8 which is interesting, maybe these guys or Baumann Engineering could say what flexplate is needed.
