Yeah, I'm new on the block. I've been driving a II for several years now. 1987 2.9L FWD A4LD tranny. Engine has been swaped out with a junker, tranny has been rebuilt by shop. I firmly believe the garage started the original engine without oil ---collapsed lifter---but I can't prove it...so the engine swap. What's getting to me is the OD or high gear, whatever the case may be. It shifts all the way through until the engine/tranny warm up to operating temp, then the high gear or OD drops out as evidenced by an increased RPM. It didn't do it all the time, but now it is a frequent occurrence. I was planning to drive it back east 2000 miles on a trip in June, but now I'm really having second thoughts about that. I have been getting 16 -19 mpg around town & haven't had it on the open road for any mpg calculations. Anyone fixed this problem or have any input on it??? The tranny shop couldn't find anything wrong, I was thinking about taking it into a mechanic to see if there was an eazy fix the he knows about.
Thanks...Al
