What will he need?
My heighbor wants to put a 302 cobra in a 89 Tempo! He has the motor and tranny, but would like to know about suspension, rear end and any other thing to make this work.

What will he need? A match.. to throw into the Tempo's gas tank.
Seriously.. this is no simple job, the Tempo is FWD and you're talking about converting it to RWD. Your neighbor is gonna need some serious fabrication skills.

I saw a neon with a 440 in it at the big mopar show they used to have at heartland park in topeka, the motor pretty much sat where the passenger would have and the driver had a header for an armrest, they offset the rear diff to one side so it would line up with the tranny. Look like to me they just took all the suspension off of that car and just built it from scratch and set the neon back down on top. Pretty much the unanimous response was what a waste of a motor.

How serious is this neighbour? It's easy to spend a lot of time helping someone with a haywire idea, but it might be best to find out how serious this fellow is, and what his abilities are. If he really is capable of doing a lot of the work himself, it would be fun to help get this wacky project going.
First off get a measuring tape and check if the engine will fit. No doubt the firewall will have to be modified and a trans tunnel fabricated. Is he able and prepared to do all this? If so, then it might work out.
I'd use a narrowed 8" rear end.
