Whats a good place to find used diesel motors? Mine may or may not be in the early stages of becoming an anchor so i was wondering where I could look for a cheap 6.9 to rebuild or possibly a 5.9/6bt to put in. Probly would have to go with the first one being as that big oil has all my money.
I'm not condeming mine yet need to do some more checking but just wanted to look into options if it turns out to be cavitation.

id check your local school system they have alot of older IHs with the 7.3 in louisiana if a school bus is over 15 yrs old they must take it off the route that may depend on the state at auction the buses around here go for $350-500 alot of them dont have many miles on them im lookin at 5 rite now all with low miles and had new engines put in in the last few years also they are required to keep maint records and service the buses on a regular basis
Well I definatly need an engine now. Nothing on craigs list and no way the school system has anyting that old. Gunna have my boss call a recycler we use and see about a 6.9 block.
Any one know a way to get out of a truck you are still paying off? I like the truck but it seems like one thing after another keeps going wrong. Pluss I don't have the money to fix it. I could probly get a reman on credit from work but then I'm stuck in a dead end job, with no chance of a raise, untill i pay it off. Unless some how the economy picks up or the management and owners start caring about some one besides them selfs.
I have found a ton of them on Craigs List but maybe it's a regional thing. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to find one in Vegas. But obviously you've tried with no sucess. You might try car dealers, even new ones, you might get lucky. A lot of times, espacially with the price of scrap metal, there are guys going around buying the low-value cars and junk trade-ins for scrap and/or resale. The dealer might put you in touch with them.
One other thing, there's all those ads on Craigs List for the guys wanting to buy and/or remove junk cars--get in touch with them they might have picked one up somewhere. It's probably just scrap weight to them.
Well the more I think about it screw it the blocks junk so I don't realy care if that head gasket in a can stuff plugs coolant passages any how just bypass my heater core and try that then go by my old moto from when I had my integra drive it till it explodes.
Or I got a better idea since you have you're ford now you should donate your 12v to the cause I guse I could live with the VE untill I could aford a P-pump conversion

Whoa hold on now! I know your P.O.ed @ your truck but don't get crazy and start trying the get the heart and soul of my baby! LOL
I wish fuel wasn't so crazy. I'd get you a core (I know where there's two 6.9s and a 7.3 right now!) have my Dad condition it for you (if you needed it done) and meet you half way. But I'll bet you could have yours sleeved and build it for what it would take in fuel now.
Also I always discounted the Bosch VE rotory pump some more and it's actually kinda cool. It ain't no P7100 but it's amazingly "tunable", I might put a Pyrometer on mine and start playing with it.
I always discounted the VE and wished for a 7100 so I never took the time to really learn anything about it, that's what I get for assuming things. It always makes an @$$ out of me!
Yep, the P7100 has the reputation, but, the VE is not at all far behind it... I did barely anything at all to mine and picked up 14 psi over stock, and still have lots of room to go... LOL. I must say, the Cummins builds EGT's waaay faster than my 6.9 did, but, even that 18.5cm housing spools waaay faster than my Banks setup did on the 6.9...
Too bad the OP is so far away, I'd give him my 6.9 truck, only real good part is the engine...
I got a used 16CM housing I'm gonna try. I got it from a guy in Portland that swaps Cummins into anything and everything for $100. He said the smaller housing works great, fast spool up and enough boost. For the price it's worth a try.
Your right about the EGTs, that was such a HUGE concern with the Cummins guys I figured it was a diesel thing but you don't hear much about high EGTs on here.
