An annoying problem started today with my ABS. When coming to a stop or just slowing down the pedal will start to pulse as if the wheels were starting to lock but it is far from locking at all. If I step on the pedal hard while this is happening it pulls hard to the left then the ABS light comes on and I have full braking. It will only pull left for that time only then will not pull after the pulsing.
I am assuming that when the ABS light is lit the system must be in override mode cause the symptoms stop.
Any Ideas where I should start to look for the problem would be great.
Yes, an ABS fault turns the light on and simultaneously forces the system offline, leaving you with conventional hydraulic braking.
1. Disable the ABS system by removing the fuse. F14.
2. Perform braking tests to see there is any pulling under sharp braking conditions. If so, you have a fault in the underlying hydraulic system that is being detected by the ABS system. If you do still get any pulling, look at the brake hoses (internal collapse) or the caliper on the side of the vehicle OPPOSITE from the direction of the pulling.
If you find normal, non-ABS braking function, the problem is likely due a faulty hydraulic control unit but additional testing should be done to confirm.
you have a bad abs wheel speed sensor. one sensor is telling the abs computer that the wheel is locking up. the only good way to diag this is with a scanner that can get abs data list. you have to look at all the abs sensor speeds and see which one is dropping off. if it is pulling left then i would guess that it is the right front.
