I have a b2500 - 1998. Ususally runs fine. Not now though. Starts and idles fine. However once you mash the gas to get it out of the idle range it misses-like it is only shooting fuel every other time? Normally when you mash the gas you get a solid response. If you think of this as 1-2-3-4; now when I mash on the gas and hold it, I get firing like in time of _-2-_-4. I used to work on diesel generators and we would refer to this as surging or hunting - however this is usually at idle as well as under load. I can't drive it so I would appreciate any help ya'll can give.
Have a great Memorial Day.
PS thank you (COBRAXP) for the blend door fix. It saved me alot of money and worked great.
If it's starving for fuel, it could be the fuel filter. that would be a nice cheap spot to start. My neighbor had a van doing the exact same thing. just a thought, sure would be nice if it was that cheap huh? haha
Wish it was too. It has been about 3 years for the fuel filter. But the truck showed no other signs. When I started the truck, this time, I immediately put it into reverse and put my foot on the gas because I was in a hurry. I say this becasue in the past I have noticed that if I try to gas my truck before a minute-or-so the trucks runs erratic but it has always smoothed out. Not this time.
I fell it is something in the electrical. I checked all the fuses I could see and unhooked the battery for twenty minutes. No good. It idles all day long but when I give it gas it acts like it is hitting every other time.
Thanks Ford racing. I got to thinking about it and simple things first. I bought a fuel filter and put it on today. No luck. I also checked (according to Haynes) the Throttle positioning sensor for voltage and resistance - checked good. I checked the Mass airflow sensor - it also checked good. I checked the Idle air control - it checked good.
Any thoughts else it could be? How do you know if your fuel pump is going bad? Also what about trash in the fuel? I was thinking about this but I filled up on base and have already used a half tank and haven't had any other symptoms.
PS. Thanks to the website for the information on fuel filters. I have a 98 Mazda B2500 and used the tool in the site below. Once I used to tool on the first side the second side came off in seconds. Lisle Angled Disconnect Tool - Model 39400 at Sears.com
