Went to roll up my back window and all the motor does is run and the windows jumps like it trying to go up. Window is 3/4 the way up(gear stripped -that common?) Doing a search and looking at advance auto for a gear in which they stock, does the back window have to be down to tackle this project, or would it be easier to leave up All replys appreciated - never have been into the back window at all --blind eyes on this subject thanks Tr
You probably want to tackle this this weekend when a lot of the responders are gone. I have not done it..yet. From reading many threads on rear window I would go to the auto supply Help! rack and get the three plastic rollers that go in the mechanism. It might be the same ones for the side doors. Then look above at Forums/Search and enter "+rear +window" without the quotes and Bronco.
I just did mine and I did not have to remove the glass. Just had to have it all of the way down. May be a good idea to remove the glass (as suggested in the link above) so that you can lube the tracks better and possibly replace the rollers.
Your problem is common and it is the pastic gear inside the assembly as shown in the link above (white). When I took mine apart the pastic gear was wollered out causing the window to not roll up or down and it jumped around, like yours. So, this is certainly your problem as mine did EXACTLY the same thing. I ordered the kit from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard for $15.

Few hours (taking my time) all finished ,rear window working. Advance Auto sells a rebuild kit (19.88) for any one wanting to tackle this rebuild, part#84634, course my truck is a 1992 , check year. thanks to all the help especially the atricle :that helped millions TR
I just reupped for a second three year supporter. I run a web site for hunting and recognize the importance of cash flow to keep a site active. On my site, not many support as people would think. I don't mind sending a litle money for the great tool provided here in FTE.
the same thing happen to me last year, i bought a part off e bay 3 little neoprene spacers, $4.00 shipped! they go under the gear assy. in the motor and hold the assy. up tight against the lift assy. teeth. they are just spacers that go bad, i left the window up and went through the access panel, about 11/2 hours, including replacing the spacers. thanks!
