So, got my 65 truck about ready to run the roads...engines all new and good shiny...getting the rest of the drive train and suspension sitting right... Bout ready to start the body...going to buy new front fenders...have my hood professionally straightened and blocked...buttt I dont want to spend 10k on a paint job...I realllly dont care about the color...I just want it to be clean. low. shiny 20 and 18 inch wheels. and a lot a go. SO.. I have heard alot about this Blitz Black paint, and what I hear is that it easily applies...I dont want to use the john deer hardner ...I want a slower hardner..I think that this satin look will be a good look for a few years of me getting the truck up to the level of where I think it has nothing left to do but a expensive paint job. I hear the paint is VERY durable. crap its a tractor paint. What do you guys know about it.??
Well, one way to go about it is if you do all the prepwork yourself, the paintjob won't cost you the 10 grand figure you have in mind. Have the hood re-worked like you talked about and just take the time to do the body right, then when you have it where you want it look around to see who can give you the best quality job for the money. I know me personally, if you brought the truck to the shop already prepped and would help with the masking, it wouldn't run you near that much. The biggest thing would be the materials.
Well, I got a figure of about 7000 for an all over paint...
I got another figure from another guy for about the same.
Thats for a epoxy primer base coat clear coat
I can spend a few thousand bucks in a few years...but right now..
not going to happen. Now Im taking the hood, bed, doors, and inner fenders to get blasted with soda... Im buying new fenders from lmc... I was going to then get a guy to
epoxy the parts for a couple hundred bucks. and thats great... but lol my wife would have a fit if I spent 5k or so on a GOOD paint job right now...I just did the motor and tranny...and suspension is in the works.lol shes likes the truck but she doesnt like the money spent on it. So I plan to drive this truck for awhile and work on it. and maybe in a few years of me saving up I can get the job i need...but I cant drive around in epoxy...so I was going to throw some hot rod black on it... give it that unfinished cool look. and I hear Blitz Black is the black durable enough to last and not rust.
Well in that case the blitz black will work just fine, or you can use SEM's version of the HotRod Black that Dupont makes, it's fairly cheap and lasts well with a good black look and no fade.
