A few questions...

Alright everyone,I have few questions.

First of all,the 302 that was put in a 86 F-150 was fuel injected correct? The 300 straight 6 was carbed though right?Well,I was looking at the tags and VIN on my truck today and apparently it came from the factory with a 302.Now, it has the second 300 I6 it's had, which it has currently in it and hooked up to the 300 I6 is a 4 speed tranny. What 4 speed would hook up to a 302 and a 300 I6?

Second of all,I took a picture(the picture is in my gallery) of what I'm assuming is the old ECM under the dash to the right of the steering column. Is this the old ECM for the 302 that was in there prior to the 300?If so would I be able to take that ECM out of the truck or would that affect the truck in some way?If I have to do some fabrication to do this it's no big deal I should be able to do that.

Third of all,(sorry I know this post is getting quite length)I took a close up picture of the wires on my driver side fender. They currently aren't hooked up to anything in the engine compartment and I would like to know what they get hooked up to.I think that they were for the cruise control, but I'm not completely sure.

I could really use some help on these things. Thanks so much in advanced.

Don't see your pictures in the gallery yet, but I would unplug the ecm, and then drive it. If everything is ok, then you can get rid of it. You are correct, the 302 was fuel injected with a computer.

Sorry about that.I was having trouble with my camera. They should all be there now hopefully.

Oh yeah, one other thing.I redid my dash in the truck.Let me know how you all think it looks.Personally I like it a lot so far.

Thanks.

Those plugs that are on the fender look like the factory plugs for a Duraspark II ignition system.

What type of ignition is in the truck now, and how was it wired in?

I've seen where people have wired in a duraspark II system by hacking the TFI-IV part of the main harness when all they needed to do was use the empty DSII plugs already provided.

I don't know exactly what the ignition system is now but I really don't think it's a duraspark.Mainly what I want to find out right now is if I can take the old ECM out for the 302 that was in there. If I have to fabricate some things in there thats ok.

The way the EEC looks in the picture in your gallery, it's already partially unplugged anyway.

So I would say it was ok to remove it.
However if your truck stops running, put it back in.

Yeah that's what I figured.The engine is a 82.Did a 82 even have a advance ECM in it?

Some of the models may have, especially California models. They also had a weird duraspark III system. If you have a vacuum line going to the distributor, then you have the best system(whatever it is). You never know, you might have points.

I don't think I have any vacuum lines running to the distributor but I'll check.I'm gonna try unplugging the ECM completely and see if my truck still works. It looks as though it already is completely unplugged but I'll double check and varify it.

If you don"t have any vacuum line connections on the distributor, then that's not a good sign. It means you have the later model dist, that has no way to advance the timing when the rpms go up.

it looks thats a points distrubiter.and there is a vacuum line on the dizzy. i also noticed there is a balist resistor on your fender well, witch leads me to believe it is a points dizzy.the last picture i saw was your fuel inertia switch, with tells me your electric fuel pumps are not working with it unpluged.i don't think there is no problem with unhooking the computer since nothing is hooked up to it. great pics ,they tell alot to the experianced eye. good luck

From what I see in the pics, (great lookin' truck by the way), your distributor does have a vacuum line going to the carb. It's a green factory plastic line running around the back of the block.
If I were you, I'd scrap that hard line for rubber vacuum line. That hard line gets brittle over time and it tends to crumble just when it's the most inconvenient time to fix it.

Thank you.I'm more of a visual person, figured it would be easier to take pictures than to try and explain everything. So this might sound like a dumb question, but how would my fuel be getting to the engine if my eletric ones aren't working?Where would it be if it's on the engine? Is it even on the engine?Could this be why my gas guage doesn't read correctly? This kinda confuses me.Could I get rid of my eletric fuel pump all togeather?

If anyone has any suggestions or anything that would be very helpful.I think I'm gonna pull the ECM out sometime tomorrow(well today, but I need some sleep lol).Been looking at scamatics and wiring diagrams all night.

Thanks everyone.

Yeah,I will switch out that vacuum line.We had to do that on my buddies Ford not to long ago actually. Thanks for the compliment.

The mechanical Fuel pump is located on the drivers side right in front of the engine, below the push rod cover, in front of the distributor. You should see the fuel line coming out of it.
