Terry - I love it when a plan comes together!! Keep us posted on the timing...
Reminds me of years ago, when we were hiring a line mechanic for the shop at Sears. Gent showed up with a little tackle box, that was all his tools! When we asked him if he could read a scope, and timing light, he said "heck no, back home we just tune 'em by ear!". He didn't get the job, but years later I ran into him and he was still working on cars. He had a unique way of tuning - he'd put a glass of water on someplace flat on the motor, and tune until he got rid of waves or ripples. Nothing like a "shade-tree fixit man"!
looks just great!!!, I really like what you've done to the interior, Can I ask what you used for the chrome in the door panels?
It's a generic body moulding with stick on tape on the back side of it. It is chromed and looks like original door panel chrome trim. We staple it on from th back side. I need to change it out as it's getting worn.
Outstanding ! Read your Plugs after a few hundred miles.
Ernie
It might be a "little" too early, but I drove the truck about 20 miles and read the plugs and they look like they've not been run at all. There's just a slight brown dust on them It runs great!!!
You have mastered the Edelbrock carb Terry! It wasn't that bad afterall. Your truck will thank you and your gas mileage will for sure improve. Have fun cruising! Mr. Guru carb man! LOL....
I'm no guru by no means, but it does run better I can tell that. Should I be able to tell anything in that short of distance on the plugs? When I filled up, I looked at the odometer, and I hope I bumped the button or something between last fill up, cause it had 41 miles on it and it took 8.75 gals of gas thats around 5 mpg's !! Of course I let it run ALOT in the shop and havent driven it much since the changes. It had 1/2 tank and 29 miles on the odomoter when I started tuning it. So time will tell
Should I be able to tell anything in that short of distance on the plugs?
Terry - you probably won't see how GOOD you did, on the plugs with that short a distance, however, you would most certainly see any BAD in that short a distance. A nice mellow tan dusting is great.
Here's a link or two, for some of the best info...as I said, bad things usually show up relatively soon, good things stay the same, and slowly erode over the (long!) life of the plug. I usually pull one or two every few times I change the oil, just to see how they are doing, and when they get about 25,000 on them, I check them all. If they are all "even", then things are good, if one or two are bad, then I can tell somethings wrong internally in those cylinders. My '97 Saturn with 175,000 miles, they all look like they have oil buildup, which they do. Compression isn't what it used to be, and they get some blow-by. But, they wear well, get 38 mpg, so I'll drive it into the ground, then mourn it's passing!
