silly newbie question
Basic idle speed is on the carb linkage on the driver's side. Pull the aircleaner and look at the linkage. Once you work it (engine off), you'll see where the linkage rests against a stop. There should be an adjustment there, either a screw on the moving part, or an adjustment of the stop. Sometimes (later models) there is a dash-pot to hold the idle a bit when you chop the throttle. Some of these (later still) are electric. So look that over and have someone turn the motor off and on, work the throttle for you and see how everything moves. Adjust from there.
Idle mixture: At the base of the carb, splayed outward a bit, are two screws, one in each venturi. From about '68 up, these are covered with a plastic gizmo that prevents you from adjusting them much.
Once you get those off, the standard was approx 1 1/4 turns out from bottomed. Then adjust for best idle. Then turn in about 1/4 turn.
If I have this all wrong, there will be another post.
All info IIRC, TTWIDI, ymmv.
