Here's a link to a trans outfit that sells trans goodies for the AOD, but no adaptor for the AOD to the 4.0, as far as I can tell. The DO sell an adaptor for the 4.0 to the GM 700r, which in the proper configuration is better than the AOD and on par with the C4. If they had an AOD adaptor, there is a chance it would work with the C4. But they don't.

One of the issues you are going to have is changing your ecu to a manual. Your automatic ecu is going to look for the electronic trans. You may also lose your speedo in the deal.
You're not the only one. The 5 speed automatics are crap, they have some serious design flaws that seem pretty much unfixable. You'd think with Mustang owners as well as Ranger/Exploder owners saddled with them, an aftermarket "fix" would show up. I've seen some fixes, but nothing like you see for the turd-o-matic AOD, where they go through the box and FORD it, (fix or repair darn)near everything.
