Dads Tacoma is going to get crushed!
Well guys i work for Toyota and back in 1999 I bought a brandnew 1999 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4 V6. Well i ended up giving him the truck back in 2003 and since have owned larger 1 ton trucks (F350's). Well Iam not sure if you guys know about the recall that Toyota has going on right now with there pick-ups and frame rot. Well i have had 2 come in at work and had BAD frame rot. Well today i had off from work and just toke a look at my dads Tacoma. There is about 1in round rot hole on the P/S inside frame rail!! Looks like another one is a gonner. Iam going to take pics for you guys and post tonight. If you guys wonder what this recall is just do a search on google, etc and there is tons of info out there.

Well iam not saying this because i work for Toyota but i have proof this truck was a great truck. It has been thru alot of crap its life and is one insane offroad truck. The rear electri locker is the best thing ever and the intire drivetrain is bulletproof for the most part. Anyway here is the pics.
Mind you this "small" rot hole is about the smallest i have seen, the other trucks have had about the intire inside frame rail rotted away!!

True, but you would have to get POR15 inside the frame rails somehow. It is rotting from the inside out. I was able to look inside the rot hole and the inside and outer frame rails are extremely rusted and iam sure once you fix the rot hole a few years down the road there will be other holes starting.

True but my 99 F350 frame looks like the day it left the dealer
But i can't say that about my 1994.5 F350. The rad support was rotted right out of the truck, but this truck was used for snow plowing its intire life. Its not 100% Toyota's fault the frames are rotting out. The roads up here in the Northeast are bad in the winter. The amount of salt/sand they spread on the snow/ice cover roads are bad. And then the owners never clean the under side of there trucks. Oh well atleast Toyota is buying back the trucks at 1.5times NADA, dosnt matter the body or mechnical conditions.

Yup! That's the deal sweetener. 150 percent of high book value, with everything to be considered "excellent", no matter what the true condition.
Folks would be damn fools not to turn 'em in ASAP, what is exactly what Toyota wants.
However, that's not to say that Toy is buying them ALL back. Just those that exhibit this kind of frame rot. Tacomas will be running around Arizona, California, and Texas for the next decade or more. Anywhere there's no salt used.
Supposedly (I am only repeating hear-say now) Rockwell(?) supplied these frames and didn't properly apply the rust-proofing.
There's a much more comprehensive thread over in the SuperDuty forum:

DANA Corp. was contracted to build the frames. They improperly treated them for rust and corrosion. The recall affects Tacomas from 1995-2000. The warranty on the frames of each truck will be extended to 15 years (from the manufacture date) if the frame isn't bad enough. So a 1995 has 2 years left of warranty, and a 2000 has 7 years of warranty. Pretty sweet deal. I love my 7.3, but damn, if Ford had a mass recall for faulty frames, I'd giftwrap it for them!!
