i averaged the no of vehicles with the price of one of uncle sam's contracts for 1151's and it came out right at $70k/vehicle.

and HMMWV's weren't actually designed for what we're doing with them right now. they were designed to be a solid, off road capable personnel carrier, NOT an armored vehicle to run 60 or 70 down the highway escorting convoys.
What I can't understand is why the US Gov. is purchasing vehicles for private contractors? From what I understood, PSC's purchased and modified their own vehicles on their own dime.

Spence, I have installed all types of LED/strobe or any other type warning lights and I'm telling you I have not seen IR leds in that design. They look like the Whelen/Galls grill mount type. And If you could not guess by the screen name I am military and have been to Baghdad, Afghanistan and have seen these type of vehicles all over the place. Not a single one that I have seen had IR lights on them that faced the way that superduty has them. If they were to have IR lights on it I would think there would be a few more facing forward so the could help the so called ones facing the side. So Before you jump some ones replys you might want to look a little harder at their screen name or maybe ask why they think or know the reason they are posting.
Off the soap box now.

Further to thedaddycat's post about its equipment... TJM front bumper, KC aux lights, Warn winch, and 2 UHF two-way radios.

Rocdril, the gun ports would be awesome for the daily driver... probably would turn a few heads. lol

Slightly but not really off-topic... anyone have a pic of the communications console for a truck like this? I always like to see how radio gear gets mounted in Superduties, especially when "budget" isn't a big concern. Maybe it'll give me an idea for mine.

My squad got hit by a VBIED last fall while in their 1151 with Frag 5 armor - the car was about 10' away when he detonated. No injuries at all! I respected the armor a lot more after that hit. The blast is what ripped the suspension off, not an impact with anything. But there is even a new upgrade for the suspension in country now too.
A couple things here, this blast looks like it had a low trajectory. I mean even the amber reflector, ammo can and mirror are intact. Comparable blast? Not sure, just an observation

it's still not really their dime, the companies are getting paid millions and pay their employees upwards of a quarter mil a year, and the parent company is still banking huge bucks themselves while having the cash to build stuff like the what's in the OP's picture. IMHO it's ridiculous because the military still gets paid beans in comparison...

I couldnt find a TJM bumper that looked like that on the website, perhaps special order? Is the grill guard a TJM part to or some other manufacturer?

That is just a perfect example of how inefficient govt is. They can pay a private company less money it would cost the govt to do a job. I am not saying the military is a waste of money, it is the bureaucracy involved that cost. I heard that a report from 2007 on govt spending showed for every dollar spent on a project 70 cents goes to govt administration cost. I am sure that includes military as well. It is a sad state our politicians have put us in and thus the reason the less things the govt controls and operates the better IMO.

That bumper is called a "Steel Winch Bumper T15", TJM p/n S1522F.

Sorry, don't know about the guard; a TJM vendor may be able to help you.

Here's a photo of the bumper without the guard:

And the fact most contractors can't buy military spec. armored vehicles causes them to resort to amored civilian trucks. Also if you compared the costs of uparmored humvee's to that F550 that was originally posted, I would wager the costs are very similar, if not cheaper to buy the F550 (still comparing apples to oranges though). You also have to take the economies of scale into factor, theres probably only a handful of those trucks being produced compared to the thousands of uparmored humvees being built.

I really can't knock the contractor for finding a cheaper and more efficient way of doing things, and with the risk thats being taken by their employee's (who don't have the best armored vehicles) and management, the profit matches. This is all coming from someone with a close family member doing security work in the mideast currently...
