I have been finishing up the restoration and have decided to go a different route. I have decided to swap beds for a flareside bed. I have been having trouble finding a flareside bed since everyone is crushing everything around here. If and when I find a bed are the flooring straps as hard to find? Does anyone sell them in chrome?
Do you mean the metal bed strips that go between the wood boards? We make them. They are available in steel, unpolished stainless, polished stainless (like chrome) and aluminum.
Hope that helps.
If you need pics or help let me know , I have a 77 flareside bed with custom floor , synthetic redwood from home depot , wont fade ,rot and waterproof and cost $150 instead of $400+ for kit , fenders were replaced with 56 , they were rusted out at step , post pics .[/IMG]
Those polished strips look good. Thats what I will probally use. Ken that wood from Home Depot should last forever. I already have red oak and some curly maple laying around so I will use one or the other. Don't suppose anybody has an extra flareside bed laying around do you.
ken did you have to size down the thickness on the fake home depot wood ? and why are the strips missing did you end up puting them on ? I am thinking this is a great idea. What about hauling stuff does it scuff up any ?
No they fit under the lip snug , just cut the ends off and drilled out bolt holes , they fit very tight together , no strips , thinkin about t strips maybe (custom) . This is deck wood for high traffic , I havent put anything back there yet , if they use it for deck wood should be fine , dont plan on carrying anything back there except my drum kit on a blanket .
kinda off subject but when I bought my truck the PO put treated lumber in the bed and then put a piece of aluminum over the wood. well he painted the aluminum 1 coat of black (I guess spray paint). I don't know how long ago that was but now some of the paint chipped off and it doesn't look to good. it's kinda nice 'cause when I want to haul a little something in the bed the stuff I'm hauling doesn't scratch the inside of the bed.
what about welding in a steel bed and then rhino line it, i did that to mine and i can actually use it as a truck and not worry about screwing up the wood panels that were once in there.
I have a simple request can you guys start up some galleries. I would like to see some these step sides. and Bruce where are you and what kind of stepside are you going to be getting rid of soon?
