43 ford engine conversion?

Hi all first post so hope this all makes sense,

Just inherted my great auntys 1943 Ford tray truck which has been sitting in a shed for 20 years. Fortunatly its ok all round but the engine is seized and nothing seems to work. Getting parts etc in Australia for the flathead V8 is proving hard and expensive. So my question is can and is there the tools and kits avaliable to convert it to a more modern engine such as a standard petrol 302V8???

Cheers
Dave

hi dave, welcome to the club. i have a 42, but it,s all stock, so don,t know of adapter kits, but would think that if mechanically inclined you could make new mounts for engine/trans and all linkage needed. i,m sure some of the guys here will be able to give proper tips. we love pictures, so think about filling your gallery with goodies. good luck pete

Thanks Pete,

Id like to keep it stock but the origional engine is just not worth fixing. I will try and get some pics soon, the old girl will never be driven on the road but on the farm and used as a water tanker as we are going through a dry spell at the moment not too mention our ever bush fire prone summers its good to have a large capacity of mobile water.

I think the mounts wont be a problem as im sure i can engineer something that will do the job and the engine bay is quite large so the little 8 will fit but my main concearn is the engine to gearbox issues and the 6 to 12 volt change over.

Any more ideas or theories would be great!!!

Cheers
Dave

dave, as you browse through the forum, you will see all this info has been covered. if you can not find info in 47 older forum, click on 48-60 forum. these guys are much more active as far as participation goes, and will respond in volumes. there just are not a lot of early 40,s truck owners that regularly respond in older forum. this in NO way implies that they are less knowlegable, just not as active. 6-12 volt is quite simple, battery, starter, gen/alt, regulator, fuel sender, maybe guage or two, and there are many trans that will work, just ask 48-60 group, they will help! pete
